Branches in the Vine describes how Fred and Dorothy Waldock lived life - they were branches connected to the True Vine, Jesus Christ. Together they served as missionaries with Baptist Mid-Missions in India for 40 years. Theirs was a pioneer spirit, always seeking more effective ways to reach Indians for Jesus Christ. In every circumstance and in every challenge they faced, they looked to their Savior for sustaining grace. It was His life flowing through theirs that transformed the lives of hundreds of lepers, students, soldiers, hospital workers, businessmen, pastors and missionaries - the poor, the rich, Indian and American. It was their connection to Christ that made their lives so significant on earth and so influential for eternity.
Ready for Anything, Ruth Stewart Favre... Missionary during the communist battles in Europe. God used that book to confront my selfishness with my husband's time. I was looking for him to fulfill emotional needs that God should have been filling. It also helps that I know this woman's daughter who is faithfully serving the Lord in her 70's.
ReplyDelete"Evidence Not Seen" by Darlene Diebler Rose is one of my favorite missionary biographies. I also enjoyed "From Cannibalism to Christianity" by Ms. Margaret Stringer. To me, she is a true missionary hero. I know her a little and it is amazing how The Lord used her on the field of Irian Jaya.

ReplyDeleteSadly, I haven't read any,so I am gathering titles from others' comments. Has anyone heard of the Brinkman Adventures audio cds? They are looking for missionaries on the field currently. They take stories of God's provision, protection, etc. from those serving now or still alive and turn them into radio drama segments centered around a family. My young children love these, and I think it is helpful to remember God is the God of the living and is still doing marvelous things in ordinary people's lives whom He is using in His service, even today. I still need to read, but I hope if anyone knows of a missionary with a great account will get in contact with the people who produce the Brinkman adventure series.
